JOOS SOLMS
Joos is the original pioneer. He started Plantkor in 1978 while engineering agricultural equipment and building dams throughout the country.
His relationship with Skiold (one of our many world class suppliers) began in 1995 when he helped them to develop a small scale flour mill that could produce white bread flour. Up until this stage, Skiold had only managed to produce brown flour. The mill was produced and sold very successfully across the globe.
Skiold have a very successful pig section within their company and it wasnt long before they looked to Plantkor to sell their equipment in South Africa / Africa. This happened more than 20 years ago and Plantkor have since been market leaders in the Pig industry within South Africa and continue to work very closely with innovative and ever improving suppliers like Skiold and SKOV to develop new systems and equipment that can withstand our harsh environment.
JOSEPH SOLMS
Joseph is Joos’ son and joined the business in 2002 after leaving a successful flour selling business within the greater Durban area.
His practical, technically minded ways have been an asset to the company with well thought out designs and plans to assist countless farmers in successful enterprises. This too is shown in the success of his own farm where he grows his own maize, wheat and soya beans. The wheat is sold to the nearby Champagne Valley Stonemill which in turn mills it into flour and sells it on to many artisanal bakeries, pizza houses and Supermarkets.
Joseph is positive about the future of farming in the country and continues to work closely with our sister companies abroad, striving for improvements across all levels of what we have to offer.
SIMON HOFMEYR
Simon is Joos’ son-in-law and also joined the Plantkor team in 2002. His financial background helped tremendously in freeing up time for the practical men to do what they needed to do and in turn made sure that the administrative side of the business continued without fault.
The importing and exporting of equipment is part of his portfolio which has kept him busier than expected which is great for the expansion of the business footprint. He is also involved in the Champagne Valley Stonemill with Joseph.
